Affordable Housing Residences

About Umphress Terrace

Our Story

Reverend Christopher Conley Young is the namesake of CC Young Memorial Home, which was founded in 1922 across from Tyler Street Methodist Church in Oak Cliff, Texas. His mission to serve seniors began when he was approached by a destitute woman after a Sunday service with a plea for help. He knew immediately he needed to help her and many others who were in similar situations. Fundraising efforts resulted in establishing a place for widowed Methodist women and continues today as a home for all faiths, men and women alike.

Rev. Young’s ministry expanded beyond the walls of the East Dallas campus. In 2006, the nonprofit organization was awarded a HUD 202 grant for affordable housing for the elderly. The beautiful Umphress Terrace residential community opened in 2009 and sits next door to Umphress Terrace United Methodist Church.

For more than 100 years, CC Young has grown to mean so much to many. It is more than bricks and mortar. It is the ongoing support and commitment our team provides every day to seniors in need, in and around the Dallas community.
